This is how our TEFL graduates feel they have gained from their course, and how they plan to put into action what they learned:
In this unit, I learned how a teacher develops students’ speaking and writing skills as productive
skills. Many students are afraid of using these skills because of lack of confidence and fear of making
mistakes and we, teachers should notice about that and make efforts for students to overcome
these. To encourage students to speak, teachers need to choose interesting topic and try to relate
the topic to students’ interests and experience. Using visuals like videos or pictures would be good
for arousing students’ interests. Regarding writing, some problems might be caused such as
handwriting , spelling , layout and punctuation because first languages are different. Before writing,
students should be educated about these. Games in the classroom can be used to develop
productive skills for example, tongue-twisters, Noughts and crossed and hangmans and so on.
