This unit shows that lesson plans are important for various reasons:
- it helps a teacher think logically as they scaffold students toward the intended learning outcome
- it helps a teacher keep on target (albeit with flexibility)
- it acts as a record (of progress, materials, appropriateness) when referring to it at a later date
Although there is no one way to write a plan, the basic principles are that it is structured, timed (through the phases), covers a balance of skills and levels, is flexible and simple enough to refer to during a lesson. It should show a logical progression in method as it scaffolds students to next steps.
For a lesson to be successful, being organised is paramount;
- having the materials ready and within reach
- seating arrangement
- knowing that the equipment works
- being flexible with time and content
