The unit on past tense provided a succint overview of four main forms of the past tense: past simple, past continuous, past perfect, and past perfect continuous. Past simple is used for completed past actions (e.g. Yesterday, I swam.). Past continuous can refer to interrupted past actions or a gradual development (e.g. The tide was rising.). Past perfect indicates actions completed before another past action (e.g. I was tired because Simon had kept me up late.). Past perfect continuous refers to actions in the past that had been happening continuously until the past moment referred to in the context (e.g. Before eating dinner, I had been completing the TEFL course.). This was an excellent review of these different forms of past tense, and as a bonus, the sections explaining common student errors and nuances in usages will be helpful for my future teaching of this content.
