This is how our TEFL graduates feel they have gained from their course, and how they plan to put into action what they learned:
This unit explains that there are 4 basic skills needed to study any language: receptive skills (reading and listening) and productive skills (speaking and writing). There are different reasons and motives for reading and listening, which are reading and listening for a purpose, or reading and listening for entertainment, or a combination or mix of the two motives and reasons. Readers and listeners use a large number of specialist skills for reading and listening, including predictive skills, scanning, skimming, getting detailed information and deducing from contaxt. Teaching and learning these receptive skills require addressing several potential problems, including the language of the text, the topic and the tasks the student will perform. ESA teaching approaches can be used in teaching receptive skills, including patchwork lesson approaches and other ESA strategies.
