This is how our TEFL graduates feel they have gained from their course, and how they plan to put into action what they learned:
In this unit I learned the grammar of phrasal and modal verbs, active vs. passive voice, and relative clauses. Modal verbs include may, might, can, could, should, must, and would, and they create subtle but significant differences in meaning. Phrasal verbs include three different types and should be taught as vocabulary items since separating particles changes the meaning. Passive voice is used when the person doing the action is unknown or not significant or when we want to emphasize the object being acted upon. One of the most helpful things to remember is that when changing between active and passive voice, tense remains the same. Finally, I learned the difference between defining and non-defining clauses. This unit also gave helpful examples of activities to help teach these language items such as role play, making a set of rules, and matching active/passive sentences.
