This unit dealt with the reasons for and methods to lesson plan. It emphasized the importance of having a learning objective and using the lesson plan as the road map to achieve the student learning objective. It discussed a number of ways that teachers plan, from informal notes to lesson planning templates. Though plans are necessary, it also discussed the need for flexibility in administering the plans as well as the need to reflect on the success or failure of a lesson plan as a means to improve future lessons. Lesson plans are useful for a number of reasons, including that they create a road map that can be referenced during a lesson, they keep a record of what has been taught and what materials were used, they help in getting all needed resources ready so that lessons run smoothly, they allow the teacher to use as a tool for reflection and improvement of their lessons.
