This is how our TEFL graduates feel they have gained from their course, and how they plan to put into action what they learned:
Unit 12 was about teaching the two productive skills - speaking and writing. I learned that, while speaking is WHY the students are there, writing is extremely important for them to learn to do correctly as well. For speaking, this lesson showed that learning how to do it properly is two-fold: accuracy (getting the language in correct form) and fluency (wanting students to become creative and comfortable with the language). Unit 12 also covered how to teach both these topics in an interesting manner and where in the lesson each should be taught. Writing actually had more facets that need to be learned properly - grammar, spelling, handwriting, layout, etc. Being a writer myself, I never stopped to think how difficult it would be for a non-native speaker to learn how to switch from formal writing to informal writing, so those were some good points to cover within the lesson.
