This is how our TEFL graduates feel they have gained from their course, and how they plan to put into action what they learned:
This chapter covers a broad range of the types of students and it gives a rough idea of what we can expect depending on the class we are teaching. For me, I relate most to the sections - teaching young children and the monolingual and the multilingual class. At the moment, I am teaching young children from China. It is very true that sometimes classes conducted can be interrupted by disruptive behaviours. Furthermore, they speak one common language and will communicate amongst themselves in their native language. So, to prevent disruptive behaviours, what I try to do is to ensure that the lessons conducted are short and simple and not too long as they usually fidget and get disruptive when they are bored. I also do my best to engage them by having games or role-play in which students get a chance to speak in front of the whole class to build their self-esteem and confidence.
