This unit covers the topic of evaluation and tests. Evaluation and tests are given throughout a language learning course. Placement tests will be given before a student starts a course to place the level of student and group them according to ability. Diagnostic tests are given at the beginning of a course to determine what areas the students would need improvement in. Progress tests are done periodically to check the progress of students, to see how much they have remembered or acquired and how much was forgotten. Achievement tests are usually done at the end of the year to check how much the students have learnt over the year. Teachers should also give questionnaires or have a guided discussion with students to let students evaluate the course so as to plan future lessons accordingly. There are also many external exams for students to take for both study and work purposes.
