In this unit we learned about the formation and usage of the past tense. Where much felt similar regarding the affirmative, negative, and question form, I found a lot of different variations with respect to the usages of each form. I find it easy to talk and write in the past, but was surprised at how many helping verbs I had forgotten mentioning about since my school days. The video supplement for this unit was very helpful as it taught me as exercise for the compare/contrast of past simple to past continuous for an upper level student who has experience with using the past tense.This chapter discussed the elements of a successful lesson--namely, the stages Engage, Study, and Activate--and presented various methodologies for introducing said elements, from sequencing to activity examples. I felt that this lesson was very helpful to me, as it not only introduced the core principles but also gave specific examples on how to execute them. Until now, I have been teaching English in Japan with very little formal training, so learning these concepts will help me simplify and organize my lessons in a way that will be more interesting and beneficial to my students.
