This unit discussed vocabulary, grammar and functions. Specifically, what students need to be able to learn the new language. They need to be exposed to it, understand what it means, when/how to use it, and it provides several examples of how to effectively teach these things. I learned that gauging the class is important to know what to introduce on a regular basis and there are several different ways of teaching language, so it can be retained better. There is no one, correct way to teaching a new language.I learned that evaluation and testing are really necessary for teachers and students. Placement tests help teachers to place students into a class according to their english level. Diagnostic tests are used at the start of the course to see what the students already know.The results will help the teacher to prepare lessons and materials. Progress tests are given periodically. They help to gauge what language has been remembered, acquired or neglected. Practice tests help to prepare for external examiniations.
