In unit 7, I learnt Teaching Vocabulary, Introducing Grammatical Structures and Teaching Language Functions.
I also learnt how to select vocabulary to teach. We need to consider the following: Appropriateness to the students, Appropriateness to the task of lesson, Frequency of use and coverage and Teachability. Teacher not only know how to select vocabulary to teach but they also need to let the students know about a vocabulary item: Meaning, Use, Pronunciation, Grammar, Spelling and Interaction.Linguistics differentiate the Tense System into 2 main tenses - Past and Present. However, the ESL program branches tenses into 12 categories. The Present Tense for eg. is sub-divided into 4 types, from the easiest form of Simple Present to a more meticulous Present Perfect Continuous. The ESL teaches tenses based on grammatical construction in both the affirmative and negative forms, in how the tenses are used in situations, in the common errors made by students and in ideas for the activate stage.
