I learned about the best methods for teaching new vocabulary, grammatical structures, and language functions.
For vocabulary, we need to consider the difficulty of the vocabulary, based on things such as the words' spelling, pronunciation, appropriacy, and similarity to their own language and the English they already know. Students will need to know the meaning, the spelling, the pronunciation, as well as the grammar involved and its interaction with the rest of the sentence. An ESA lesson is usually best for teaching vocabulary.
In teaching grammatical structures, students are going to need to learn what the new language means, how it is used, and if there are any differences in spoken and written form. Patchwork ESA lessons can be used.
For language functions, we need to consider which functions are most needed (inviting, agreeing, etc). Boomerang lessons could be used.
