The primary goal of this unit was to give a basic overview of the different characteristics (and roles) of teachers and learners in the classroom environment. A number of examples of different roles that the teacher might play were given, as well as characteristics of \"good\" teachers and \"good\" learners. Above all, the lesson emphasized that a teacher must care about both the teaching itself and the relationship between teacher and students, as this fosters the most engaging and effective learning environment. I have learned that the teacher must be able and willing to adapt to the needs of their students, and must be able to adopt a number of different roles at any given moment. I have also learned the different terms used to describe the different stages of language acquisition (beginner, elementary, low/pre-intermediate, intermediate, upper intermediate, and advanced).
