Unit 14 was based on the books and materials that can be used for students. While authentic materials can be interesting and motivating, created materials are tailored for the levels of the students. Crosswords, word search puzzles, role-play cards, flash-cards, gap filled activities and picture stories are some created material.
Course books are made up of student books, work books,teachers books and other reading books. These provide syllabuses suitable for the levels of the students, are very structured and offer good ideas for teachers. However, students may not like these books as they may become boring and not deal with the problems of the class. Some teachers may become complacent.
Four options were given for using course books: omit, replace, supplement and adapt. Ways to analyze course books were also given, such as the price, availability and design, to name a few.
