This is how our TEFL graduates feel they have gained from their course, and how they plan to put into action what they learned:
This unit covered one of the most important aspects of the English language that is very often overlooked: pronunciation and phonology. It introduced the International Phonetic Alphabet, a very useful tool which breaks down the English language into distinctive phonemes, or sounds, which make up English words. Furthermore, the unit focused largely on the manners and places of articulation. This unit also covered the importance of teaching intonation and stress, in sentences and words, respectively. In this unit I've learnt that if you have a mixed class it's best to pair your weaker students with the stronger ones, because they will be able to help give them better direction, and can explain in their native tongue. I've learnt that warmers are always best with a new class and can also help grain rapport with the students. I've learnt that there are different ways to approach a student who is feeling shy or uncomfortable, and to get them more settled into doing group work and class activities
