Unit 15 covers the important aspect of evaluating and testing students. Effective evaluation of student learning is paramount because both the teacher and the students need to know if they are progressing and retaining information. This unit also stressed that ongoing evaluation is important and that it doesn't always have to be a formal, lengthy test to evaluate learning - it can be informal tutoring, games, or feedback. There are many different types of evaluations, which are covered in this unit. There are placement tests for placing students in the appropriate classes and levels, diagnostic tests for knowing what students already know and what they struggle with, progress tests that gauge ongoing learning and retention and happen more frequently, and practice tests that prepare students for the more formal tests that outside agencies offer for college or career placements.
