This unit covered a major part of the English language that often is overlooked when teaching English to students of a non-English language. The rise and fall in pitch of a sentence and the meaning that is attached to it refers to intonation, the stress that can be put on words within a sentence can add more intricate meaning and can even change the entire meaning of the sentence depending on the context or what the speaker is intending to say. The final part is pronunciation, which can be extremely difficult as English ha many many sounds that are not normally seen from students who are not from a Latin origin country such as the Far East, Slavic or Middle East. There is an international phonemic alphabet that can be used as an aid and should be known by the teacher, this alphabet is phonetic in nature and represents all of the different sounds produced by the English language.
