Unit 4 was very useful for me, because my students often make many of the mistakes mentioned, but I sometimes find myself unable to explain exactly why they are wrong. I usually just say that it is simply how the English language is, but I know that there is often a better explanation. I am glad that I have taken the time to read through Unit 4 carefully because the information in it is very concise. I especially appreciate the plethora of examples, both of correct usage and of incorrect sentences.This unit taught me about teaching the productive skills speaking and writing. I learned that student's writing is often underdeveloped. This is because they typically focus more on speaking and writing is reserved for homework. I imagine the English language is difficult for students to learn how to write. English is not a phonetic language, as mentioned in the unit. English also has multiple spellings for the same sounds. Students who learn slang from the internet may not realize it is incorrect.
