This was a very challenging and interesting unit - there are so many different ways to express yourself in the English language that it is truly baffling. I felt that I have learned a great deal of things that previously were not well known to me, and find this very interesting. It is important to know these differences in phrases, modals, and passive voices and how they can express different things to such a subtle degree to ensure that students can be as precise as possible when speaking and that they can pick up on the maximum amount of meaning from spoken/heard English.Unit 13 covers the scientific or linguistic approach to the challenges with pronunciation and why it makes teachers feel insecure. Also, why these insecurities lead teachers to often neglect pronunciation in teaching the English language. Furthermore, phonology or phonetics is defined. We learn how all aspects like intonation, word stresses, and articulation work together to form the English language, and why its so challenging to non-native speakers. I think Unit 13 really tested my memory and natural speech instinct when it came to questions based on the phonetic alphabet.
