In this unit I learned the definition of intonation, it patterns, and what the pattern indicates. I learned the various techniques for indicating and teaching intonation. I learned the difference of where to place the stress on a syllable and techniques for teaching stress. The English phonemic alphabet can confuse some English language learners because the phonemes and graphemes are not always the same. The articulation section of the lesson was all new information and slightly overwhelming.Exams are an important part of teaching English as a second language. From this unit I learned that as a teacher it will be important to assess students' levels in the beginning of the course with a diagnostic / placement exam and then give periodic progress exams to measure where the students are throughout the course. Giving regular exams will help the teacher identify strengths and weaknesses of particular students and glean information that can possibly help them improve their curriculum.
