In teaching, we use different materials to help supplement our teaching. This unit taught me that these different materials could either be authentic, these are materials that natives use in a day to day basis like newspaper articles, songs etc, or creative, materials that teachers make to meet the specific levels of their students like cross word puzzled, role playing cards etc. I've learned that in choosing materials to use in the classroom, the students' level should be considered.
Course books was also discussed together with its advantage and disadvantages.In this unit I learned the best ways to arrange the students in a classroom and the factors to be considered. I also learned how to establish rapport as well as how to maintain discipline. I learned that students are sensitive towards the teacher's position in the classroom and whether I am sitting or standing it tells them the type of activity, my role and what they should expect as students. This unit also taught me that there are several reasons for behavioral problems among students, these include class size, family problems, peer pressure and low self-esteem.
