This is how our TEFL graduates feel they have gained from their course, and how they plan to put into action what they learned:
This unit took a look at the different kinds of groups you can encounter as a teacher of English as a second language, and looked at their individual teaching needs.
It looked at young learners, the different kinds of beginners, the different kinds of motivations and class sizes as well as differentiating between business English and general English.
It gave an overview of how theses different groups might operate as a class and recommendations for how they should be approached.Lesson planning is one of the units I most looked forward to, and simultaneously, dreaded. I have made lesson plans in the past as a preschool teacher, and they were very simple. The idea of making them for middle school or high school students or adults was daunting to me, but having read through this chapter, I see that it is better to keep it simple and flexible, and lesson planning no longer strikes fear in me. Thanks for this chapter! It made me more confident in my skills.
