Testing is a very important part of teaching, but it is also the most stressful for students (at least me anyway). Testing is a necessary evil, but I think we could improve on the way we test students. I feel as if testing is just a test of memorization. Instead of knowledge of the actual language. On the other hand, learning a language is sometimes a matter of simply memorizing words. We have a lot to improve but maybe we'll get there someday.Speaking and writing are productive skills where overall fluency and understanding are more important than accuracy or penmanship. A good activity that demonstrates both types is a cartoon strip that includes both spoken language and boxed dialogue. When talking, it is important to speak slowly and clearly. Something to be mindful of is that different accents may pose a challenge for students if a relief teacher is required to fill in a lesson.
