This unit covered teaching special groups such as beginners, young and old learners, monolingual and multilingual classes, and business English classes. One of the points which this unit covered was the use of the native languge in the classroom. Within my network, whether or not it is acceptible/effective to use the students' native language in class is a frequent point of discussion. I have many colleagues who both support and oppose the use of the native language in the classroom. I feel as if use of the native language is necessary, for the time being, at least until I am able to develop the skills necessary to teach without relying on the native languge for administrative matters and for giving instructions. I look forward to the opportunity to conduct level testing and needs analysis in the future. I think these are great tools to target the specific needs of the students.
