Unit 1 introduced the content for the next five units. Included was helpful advice as to how to study the units and the aims of the course. The explanations of the abbreviations of the different types of classes, certificates, and associations were very helpful. I didn?t realize that TEFL only applied to teaching English in non-native English speaking countries. Being new to teaching Business English, I appreciated the reminder that I am expected to teach the students English that they can use in business situations, not to teach the students about their business.This unit was a great review of the conditional and reported speech. I once again, found myself thinking back many moons ago when I was taught grammar at school and the complexities of what was to the reminder of the confusion a student may face in trying to remember the different tenses and structures. I also found myself questioning my answers and thinking twice about a natural reporting of a present form in the present to giving answers with a back shift of tense. I may have to set myself some of the teaching idea exercises to ensure I have these forms down pat!
