This unit focused on teaching special groups. Special groups are people who are beginning to learn the English language. There are different categories for people who are beginning to learn English. Some people who live in foreign countries might have to learn English because their jobs require them to do so. Even though English teachers typically do not have a lot of knowledge in other career fields, it does not matter because they only thing they are teaching is the English language, not the skills it requires to complete a different profession.Unit eleven covered two of the four basic skills of any language, the receptive skills reading and listening as opposed productive skills speaking and writing. I learned that there are actually two reasons for reading and listening,for a purpose and entertainment. The unit covered the various ways of how we read and listen, like predicting, scanning and skimming. And it also covered ways to make learning more manageable bu pre teaching vocabulary, the selection of texts, bring a variety of topics to the lesson, creating interest and helpful tasks.
