Reading the phonetic sentences was quite eye opening! I was unfamiliar with most of the symbols that represent each sound, so I needed to study the table showing pronunciation before I was able to answer those questions. In my future teaching I will make sure to include direct and indirect instruction about pronunciation as it is one of the most challenging aspects of language learning, and correct pronunciation builds confidence and fluency, and will help others to understand what they are saying more clearlyIn my current job position I don't have the luxury to choose the teaching materials and books the students use in their lessons. However, knowing what to look for and to think about when evaluating course text books is a valuable skill to develop. Something simple, such as the price of books and how that may affect student's ability to study is something that I may not have considered before reading through this chapter. Also, I enjoyed the comparisons between authentic materials and teacher created materials.
