How a new class starts is crucial to the management of the class for the entire year. The teacher has to create a balance of being welcoming, fair, and stern. Getting to know the students builds rapport between the students and teacher. It helps the students know that the teacher values them and their opinions and needs. It helps the teacher understand the motivations, language level, and interests of the students to help him better tailor his class to the students.This unit focused on how to teach productive skills, reading and writing, and also discussed how to incorporate games into a lesson. I thought this lesson was interesting as reading and writing are an important part of learning a language. As someone who writes in cursive, the section on the importance of handwriting was interesting to me. I agree that handwriting should be a form of personal expression, but also a practical skill necessary to everyday communication
