This is how our TEFL graduates feel they have gained from their course, and how they plan to put into action what they learned:
I learned about which types of activities are appropriate at specific stages of a lesson (engage, study and activate). For example, activities that require higher level thinking and more complex understanding of language and grammar (e.g. debate) should not be used in the engage stage because students are learning new information and will not yet be able to apply it in a complex way. I also learned about examples of different ESA structures (e.g. Patchwork VS Straight Arrow).Teaching pronunciation and phonology is a difficult task for a teacher, because it is very important for producing good English, and at the same time it is sometimes difficult to find time for that. But we should absolutely admit that these topics must be covered from the very beginning. Elementary students usually start to learn phonetics at the same time they start to learn how to read in English, therefore the rules of pronunciation come together with the rules of reading.
