This unit describes what receptive skills are, and helps to establish their importance in learning a language. It is important that certain lessons focus on receptive skills as they are important for holistic comprehension of language. To increase receptive skills a teacher should structure a lesson so as to engage and interest the students. Topics of interest for all members should be used and different receptive skills should be explained to students so they can utilise them in the correct settings.The unit explored the different groups a teacher may encounter. Early learners, business employees, students in a multilingual class, and students in a monolingual class. There are advantages and disadvantages to teaching each of these groups. Primarily I am interested in teaching early learners; however, the information I learned about clients can be transformed into helpful advice for early learners as well. Additionally, this information opens the possibilities to teach a wider variety of students.
