This is how our TEFL graduates feel they have gained from their course, and how they plan to put into action what they learned:
This unit covered teaching receptive skills to students. First, this unit explained that there are two different sets of skills, receptive and productive. The receptive skills are reading and listening. Second, this unit explained that there are reasons and motives, and skills associated with receptive skills. Third, this unit covered the problems associated with receptive skills and how to solve them. Fourth, this unit covered how to teach receptive skills through topics that interest the student, tasks that apply the information the student is learning, and lesson plans that facilitate the students understanding and retention of the topic. Finally, I have learned that to successfully teach a lesson a teacher must first know their students. I have also learned that in order to truly understand a foreign language there must first be preexisting knowledge of the culture of the language.
