This is how our TEFL graduates feel they have gained from their course, and how they plan to put into action what they learned:
In this unit I learnt about Productive skills speaking and writing. This is the most ignored aspect of learning English, because it is time consuming and teachers dont like the quiet time. But we as teachers need to make sure that students are developing their writing skills as well as speaking. Using many games and the ESA method, we can help students gain confidence in their writing skills. Pronunciation is also an important aspect where the teacher is controlling the activity like drilling. This unit focused on speaking and writing, which are productive skills. Students often spend more time working on speaking because writing requires long periods of silence in the classroom. Speaking mistakes can be remedied at the moment the mistake is made, where as writing mistakes may not be able to be fixed or corrected if the author is not present. Accuracy activities are usually part of the study phase, where as fluency activities usually take place during the activate phase of a lesson.
