Lesson variety, flexibility and adaptability is very important in keeping the learners engaged and excited. Pre-printed course materials can be very helpful, and serve as a springboard for the teacher who can then adapt the materials accordingly. The use of virtually inexhaustible, current and topical authentic materials bring today's world into the classroom. Students would be able to relate the news they have heard in their own language to the the language they are learning.This lesson gave a fairly in-depth look at classroom techniques. It covered what to do and what not to do when correcting students. I learned that the arguably most effective method of teaching is the ESA method; Engage, Study, Activate. There are a multitude of different games and exercises that can be used for the Engage stage of a lesson. One of the most important things that I learned from this lesson is to aim to keep student talk time high, and teacher talk time minimal.
