This is how our TEFL graduates feel they have gained from their course, and how they plan to put into action what they learned:
This unit focused on the teaching of productive skills which are speaking and writing. Of all the skills, writing is the most neglected skill taught in the classroom. In comparison, writing requires a greater degree of accuracy, whereas speaking requires a greater degree of fluency. When teaching speaking skills, I believe it is very important to boost the students' confidence and have a very comfortable atmosphere in the classroom. This way students will feel more inclined to speak even if they may make mistakes or aren't sure of the correct way(s) of saying something.Unit 7 was about the rules associated with the four different types of past tenses. From this unit I learned about the different scenarios and contexts for using each of the four types of past tenses. Before reading unit 7, I did not know specifically about these because as a native speaker they just come naturally to me. Also, as there are so many irregular verbs (way more than what is included in the example lists), it seems irregular to find a verb that actually follows the rules. As a teacher, I will need to use many memorization activities to teach irregular verbs.
