This unit briefly covered the different types of students that a teacher may encounter. There are many different reasons why people are wanting to learn English. Each of these come with different needs, expectations and language levels, among other things. The main takeaway from this unit is that it is important to understand the needs and motivations of your students. In doing so, a teacher will best be able to create lessons that is most useful and interesting to the students.I always had issues with the passive voice with my written work in high school, and it wasn't until I studied it in Japanese at university that it really clicked for me. Thus it has been interesting to properly review the rules and method behind it in English. I would be interested in seeing how my own experiences will have an effect on my own teaching methods regarding the passive voice, and what activities I utilise in order to help my students avoid the same confusion I felt.
