This is how our TEFL graduates feel they have gained from their course, and how they plan to put into action what they learned:
I found this unit helpful with its sections relating to individual 1-1 teaching and also teaching to children. I find i am more hesitant when approached by younger students but the examples and ideas of exercises to use with beginners provided in this unit will definitely give me more confidence going forward. A point i had also not considered previously was not using the local language of the student especially with children and the fact this promotes laziness. SO this is definitely a key point i will remember. This unit deals with teaching receptive skills. From what I understand generally there is a current debate as to whether students learn better through listening or reading. The material points out that reading is better because students can perpetually go over information that is written while if they listen and are distracted they can miss crucial information. I think the primary lesson for teachers is that we choose material wisely and find out what truly interests our students before introducing other topics.
