This section dealt with some of the most difficult subject matter yet. Some of the identified grammar structures are rarely learned in schooling and simply learned through contact, as most language is. Seeing it turned inside out and analyzed in a way that I'll need for teaching it to L2 students was challenging.
Phrasal verbs seem especially complex, and I will need to spend a lot more time in solidifying how they can be taught in the classroom. However, I suspect that those kinds of lessons would be reserved for more advanced classes or for business-minded students.It is interesting to learn that writing is the most neglected part in the world of foreign language teaching and learning. It is however good and important to know what both speaking and writing are equally important productive skills. It is very helpful for me to know that teachers must create the need and desire in the students to communicate, this is more so in some cultures. I find the sections on encouraging students to speak and techniques to encourage students to speak useful. It is also a good reminder to know the different motivations on why people communicate.
