This is how our TEFL graduates feel they have gained from their course, and how they plan to put into action what they learned:
Unit eight focused on speaking and writing. These are very different but both used for communication. Writing is sometimes neglected in the TEFL world and students focus more on speaking because in speaking, they can make a mistake and still clear it up \"on the spot\". I learned about the difference between accuracy and fluency activities. Accuracy activities are usually part of the study phase and are concentrated on producing correct language. Fluency activities are used in the activate phase and are concentrated on allowing students to experiment and be creative with language. This unit broke down the differences between teaching special groups of students. Beginners and children both require lots of repetition, gestures and slow speaking, but children need to be actively kept engaged in the lesson as they have shorter attention spans. Business clients are the most different from other types of learner as the teacher is often teaching to specific needs of the client to help them achieve a specific goal. This is why teachers use Needs negotiations to identify what the client knows, what they use English for and how they plan to use English in the future.
