Here we look at how effective teaching themes are within the learning process. Songs and chants, games, stories, arts and crafts and seasonal highlights can all be used to reach the teaching point. They can all be used for all age groups. However, they will differ slightly in order to fit the class in question. Eg. Younger learners will take part happily in singing with actions and dramatics but they may not be able to sit quietly and listen to a lengthly story or audio book. Older learners may well indulge in the idea of creating their own game or piece of writing but will be less motivated to sing and dance in front of each other.
Using these themes we can create lesson plans which both increase language knowledge and put it in to relatable contexts. It also creates some fun which in the right dose can be highly motivating.
We must alway consider cultural differences and sensitivity.
