This is how our TEFL graduates feel they have gained from their course, and how they plan to put into action what they learned:
Lesson 20 centered on troubleshooting potential issues in the classroom. It provided specific ways to engage students and to combat common problems teachers face. One such issue is that of dealing with large classes. In this unit I learned that the use of worksheets, group work and choral repetition can help mitigate some of the issues that come with large classes. This unit also addressed reluctant students. I learned that role-play and controlled practice can provide a sense of comfort with the material and can therefore result in more engagement and participation. Lastly, this unit discussed establishing rapport with the students, beginning the first class. This can be done with interactive activities such as a pass the ball game; it is important that the students get to know the teacher and the teacher become familiar with the students so as to cultivate a positive learning environment.
