Teaching receptive skills: listening and reading are equally important when teaching english. People can read or listen for a purpose or for entertainment, and the way the are able to do it depends on the pre existing knowledge that they already have. As we see, it has to do with our minds as all, that is, the way we process information. To develop these skills while learning a new language it is very important to expose the students to reading or listening materials, that can be authentic (from an original source and usually more complex in words and grammar) or non authentic (probably more suitable for new learners and students). What's important is to balance both types of materials and a good idea could be o pre teach part of the new words/vocab that the student will face during the reading/listening material. Also, the topic should be interesting enough to get all the students engaged.
