This unit covered the theory and methodologies of teaching English. First, this unit highlighted the different theories that are used when teaching english. Second, this unit identified several methods to employ when teaching English, namely the ESA stages and their suggested sequences, the Straight Arrow, the Boomerang, and the Patchwork lesson plan to name three. Third, this unit explained the three stages of a lesson. The Engage stage requires the students attention and interest, the Study stage requires a thought out lesson plan, and the Activate stage requires the student to use what they have learned. In conclusion, I have learned that there are many different teaching theories that, although different, may all be effective in different scenarios. I have also learned that errors are best corrected by either oneself or other students and that teacher correction should be a last resort.
