Having grown up speaking English & learning proper grammar from the American school system, it's interesting to be reintroduced to the proper terms for tenses that are second nature. As a teacher it is important to have a complete understanding of the grammar you are teaching to students. Some of the proper linguistic classifications are forgotten over time in one's native language, or sometimes never fully introduced. Having studied German language, it is also very interesting to see the grammatical similarities and connections between Germanic and English language structure. Although there are distinct differences, one can see the common roots of both languages. English draws much from other languages, and I believe that knowledge of your students' language(s) can only aid teachers in planning and creating effective lesson plans by utilizing knowledge of these similarities and differences.
