I got to admit, it was a nice wake up call in a way that one would never have thought the basic grammar could be confusing. So thank you for pointing out this part of grammar. There are five conditionals: Zero conditional used for irrefutable facts-if/when+ present tense, present tense First conditional used for possible future-if+ present simple, will Second conditional used for impossible situation-if+ past simple, would/could/might+ base form Third conditional used for hypothetical past-if+ past perfect, would/could/might+ have+ past participle Mixed conditional used for hypothetical situation in mixed tense differences Furthermore, it is extremely tense sensitive when one uses \"reported speech\" as well. Tense changes from present to past, simple to perfect, continuous to perfect continuous, and will to would. Pronouns and time expressions are going to change in the context accordingly.
