This is how our TEFL graduates feel they have gained from their course, and how they plan to put into action what they learned:
The attitude of the teacher and the relationship he or she creates with students is just as crucial as the information the teacher is planning the lesson around. If a teacher does not come into a class positive and confident in the students' success, the students will pick up on condescending gestures and will not participate effectively. Giving positive feedback is critical, and when a student has done something incorrectly, working with the class to produce the correct answer can help everyone learn, rather than reprimanding the student for his or her mistake. Teacher should always check in on comprehension, using techniques like drilling, fill in the blank, etc. Once the teacher is confident in the students' ability, he or she should give the students an opportunity to apply their understanding, or activate it, never just giving students the correct answers without working at it together.
