This is how our TEFL graduates feel they have gained from their course, and how they plan to put into action what they learned:
During this unit, the passive voice was learned. Modal auxiliary verbs were examined. Finally, defining relative clauses and non-defining relative clauses were mentioned. A defining relative clause gives essential information in the sentence. The sentence does not have the same meaning, or is missing essential meaning without the defining relative clause. A non-defining relative clause, conversely, provides additional information to the sentence, but can easily be removed and not leave the reader or listener in any confusion. When discussing passive voice with a student, I would explain to the student that there are two ways to say a sentence in English. They are the active voice and the passive voice. Depending on how you say the sentence, you can imply different meanings. The active voice is more direct and active, whereas the passive voice changes the focus of the sentence onto the object.
