This unit was instructive in putting me in the shoes of my students. If I was to learn a new language, it'd be paramount for me to pick things up piecemeal, at an appropriate rate in which I gradually added to my base of knowledge. That base, it seems, can at least be divided into two distinct sectors - vocabulary and language functionality (grammar). Students who just study one of these two pillars will have an unbalanced understanding of their target language, which is why they need to learn both in stride. Moreover, you gain a deeper understanding of a language when you bounce back and forth between studying vocabulary and grammar; the two are complementary. As a teacher, I'll emphasize the importance of their relationship, as I think my students will gain a fuller access to the language the quicker they become comfortable with the rhythm of the English languages vocabulary and its grammar.
