This unit covered the two receptive skills, reading and listening and defined how we used this skills, through predictive, scanning for specific information, skimming, details and deduction. The unit provide insight to the potential problems that can arise and different ways to address and teach so students have a better understanding and less confusion. (Although, I have to admit, I am a little confused on the “authentic†and “non-authentic†text that is mentioned and wish this would have been expanded on more.)
Pre-teaching, topic, creating of interest and task information provided did give greater directives and information on teaching tools to better engage students to help them learn and retain what is being taught. The basic keys for receptive skill lessons, simplified what is needed and how to go about successfully presenting and teaching receptive skill lessons.
