This unit explores the different ways of evaluating a students progress in the course. A placement test can be used at the start of the course in order to gauge a students level, and place him/her in the correct class. Progress tests can also be used in order to see how much a student has progressed in a given time period. End of year/course tests can also be used to ascertain that the student has reached the required level. The unit also presents the external exams that can be used to test a students level of English. These external tests are many and varied and generally target a specific language group (i.e. elementary learners) or a specific usage(English in the workplace.
From this lesson I learnt about the different sorts of assessment that can be utilised in the classroom, both by the teacher and by external examinations boards. I learnt more about the purpose of the various assessments.
